  • Good Afternoon

Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out and apologies for the delay in replying to your message.

As you can see from the link below, Roscrea is a Civil Parish in Co. Tipperary:

    http://www.irishtimes.com/ancestor/fuses/townlands/index.cfm?fuseaction=TownlandsInCivil&civilparishid=2286&civilparish=Roscrea&citycounty=Tipperary

Records for the corresponding Roman Catholic parish of Roscrea and Kyle begin in 1810. As this is the case, you could search the sites suggested below for records of Timothy Horan?s marriage to Rose and baptism of his children:

www.familysearch.org has a huge database of genealogical records including some church records for Ireland.

www.rootsireland.ie have a large collection of Irish Church records, however you have to pay to use this site.

You could also have a look at the Tithe Applotment Books and Griffith's Valuation for records of Timothy. Even though these records only record the head of household, the information is stilll very important:

    Tithe Applotment Books (1823-1837): http://titheapplotmentbooks.nationalarchives.ie/search/tab/index.jsp

    Griffith?s Valuation (1847-1864): http://www.askaboutireland.ie/griffith-valuation/

Remember to post any new information that you find here. The more information you post, the more likely it is that one of our volunteers will be able to advise or assist you. Also include information concerning which sources you may have already used so others may further your search.

Best of luck with your search

I have just come across your post about the HORAN family today.

I am a descent of Terence HORAN through his son Patrick (born: 1842,Sydney).

  • Hi Fiona

Thank you very much for your reply. My wife Margaret is the descendant...Horan is her maiden name. Unfortunately, I have limited access to my records at the moment due to file corruption that I'm trying to remedy. Let me know how we may compare family details and what we can talk about.

We visited Roscrea in 2015 with my brother and his wife and also Sixmilebridge from where my Irish ancestry emanates (Crowe, my mother's maiden name).

    Kind regards

    Larry

  • Hi Larry,

Thank you for your reply.   Hope you are able to retrieve your records.

Would it suit you to email about family history?  My email address is f_horan@yahoo.com.au

That is wonderful that you were able to visit places your Irish ancestors were from.  I visited Irish when I was younger and loved it. However I had not started any family history research at the time so did not visit Roscrea or the other areas that my Irish ancestor were from.

    Regards

    Fiona

  • Hi Larry,

    I forgot to mention in my last reply some things I would like to discuss are;

    1) Terence Horan  : Year of birth

Have you found a baptism record for Terence?   I have estimated that his birth year would be 1812, based on aged when given on passenger list when arrives in Australia in 1840.   But I have been unable to locate a baptism record as yet for Terence.   I have found a 1813 baptism for possible brothers; Timothy and Mick Horan to parents Timothy Horan and Rose Magher.

    2) Terence Horan:  Year of Death

I have not found a death record for a Terence Horan that fits with known information.  Have you any idea?

    3) Timothy Horan annd Rose Maher : have you been able to locate a marriage record?

    4) Timothy Horan : would love to know if you found out what pub he was publican at and if still exists.

Hope you are happy to disucss any of these topics and happy to answer any question you have if I have the information.

As stated in last reply would like to discuss by email if suitable to you ; f_horan@yahoo.com.au

    Regards

    Fiona
