So confused my head hurts.  Searching for documentation and relatives from 1 Railway Rd., Kilkee.  What I know:

My great grandparents  James Slattery and Mary maiden name Malone or Morrisey 1901 Census 131 Albert Road & Dough in Kilfeagh Parish town, Kilkee. Mary's  birth place listed as Australia. BUT in 1911 census Mary's birthplace is listed as Co.  Clare. Family lore has always been divided depending who you spoke to half said she was born in Ireland other half England moving to Australia as a youngster.  I have been unsuccessful in finding marriage record for James and Mary. My hope was the marriage record would give the factual information of birthplace AND clear up discrepancy of maiden name.   I have their son James' birth certificate and it lists Morrisey as mothers former name but all USA records of my grandfather and his siblings give Malone as their mothers maiden name.  There is possibility Mary was either married before she met my great grandfather or had 2 children as a single mother.  To my knowledge I still have relations living in the house my great grandfather built at 1 Railway Rd., Kilkee, however it has been about 18 months since anyone heard from him.  Patrick Slattery I believe still in this family home and his brother John Slattery elsewhere in Kilkee.  Patrick and John's father, Martin Slattery is my grandfathers brother. Martin passed away May 1958. His wife Maureen later remarried Pa Jo Mahony and they continued to reside on family home on Railway Rd.  Maureen passed away more than 10 years ago and Pa Jo died November 2015.

any help or direction in getting definitive info on my great grandparents marriage(s) place of birth and death would be so appreciated. Based on info on 1911 census James and Mary were married approx 1890.    That census also states 9 children born and 9 living but only 7 are listed.  The oldest as age 20 and married 21 years. Is the question then the other 2 are from a previous marriage?  My mom is still alive and would love to be able to give her this information.

Thanks for any and all help,

Kathleen Cassaro née O'Connor

    Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!

I looked through the civil marriage index records for James Slattery in the late 1880s-1890 and did not see a marriage record to a Mary Malone or Morrissey. Is it possible they were married in Australia?

I also looked at the 1855 Griffiths Valuation head of household listing and there was one Malone listed and one Morrissey listed so know clear evidence  http://www.failteromhat.com/griffiths/clare/kilfearagh.htm

Have you tried contacting the library in Kilkee to see if they can assist?
