I want to see if there are any additional connections of family still in the area. Since my first post a few years ago about my 2nd great grandfather Thomas Mulqueeny (variations Mulqueen and Mulquin). I know for sure he was born in Dooras (variations Doorus/Durass/Duras.)
I have had a major breakthrough. I discovered his sister Catherine Mulqueeny went to Sydney Australia in 1854. Her sister Margaret Mulqueeny who married a Martin Kennedy of Violet Hill sponsored her. I discovered through Catherines marriage record that her parents were Michael Mulqueeny and Anne Cooney. I have Catherines ship manifest to Australia and it lists her town as Dooras. This group has already connected me to my Mulqueeny relatives in the area. I have communicated with them and will visit them in the near future. I am looking now for other family connections that I have been able to uncover using the Australia records and the Catholic Church baptism records. I searched on acestry using only the surname Mulqueeny in the area of the search engine for mother. These are the connections that I have uncovered.
Margaret Mulqueeny married Martin Kenney of Violet Hill in Sydney Australia - in 1854.
- Margaret sponsored him as he emigrated to Australia.
- Margaret also sponsored her sister Catherine Mulqueeny who came to Australia in 1854 with Martin Kennedy. Catherine's ship manifest says she was from Dooras, County Clare.
Looking for any Kennedy connections in Violet Hill.
On Margaret Mulqueeny Kennedy death certificate - it lists a nephew William Collins. I found his baptism record in the O'Callahan Mills Church book. His parents were Mary Mulqueeny and William Collins of Claremount. So I believe Mary Mulqueeny was a sister who stayed in Ireland. I attached a file for one of the Collins children baptism records - we believe Margaret Mulqueeny is listed as a godparent before she left for Australia. So looking for Collins family in Claremount.
We also found a woman named Johanna Mulqueeny who married a James O'Brien of Claremount. We found Johanna O'Brien living in Claremount with her son and is family James O'Brien Jr. A Bridget Cooney was living with them in the 1911 Irish Census. We believe they are connected by this Bridget Cooney since the parents of these Mulqueeny's were Michael Mulqueeny and Anne Cooney. So looking for O'Briens in Claremount. - Update since Sept 6. I found something the past few days since the Civil Registrations became available that might connect this family to the family of Michael Mulqueeny of Dooras who married Catherine Lynch. One of the grandchildren of this Michael Mulqueeny and Catherine Lynch -Delia Mulqueen- was an informant on the 1941 death of James O'Brien Jr. the son of Johanna Mulqueeny and James O'Brien. He was a bachelor. Delia was noted to be a cousin of James O'Brien. I am in contact with family in Broadford of WIlliam Mulqueeny (Mulqueen) who married Anne Moroney. Their son Charles put up a headstone in the Killuran Cemetery. So we are now trying to figure out who were the parents of this Michael Mulqueeny and Johanna Mulqueeny O'Brien. It appears Michael and Johanna are most likely siblings. We have found Michael Mulqueeny and Catherine nee Lynch Mulqueeny as godparents for Johanna and James O'Briens children. This family is still probably related but could be father back in the tree.
We found a woman named Bridget Mulqueeny married to a William Dundon in the O'Callahan Mills baptism records. This family emigrated to the US too and lived in New York City. In the 1865 census my 2nd great grandfather Thomas was living with a Bridget Dundon - so I believe this was his older sister.
I also looked at the Griffith Re Valuation files and found the properties of the Collins and O'Briens in Claremount from 1860 to 1941. I could also see the Mulqueeny's in that record too. The family still had the property in 1941 in these areas of Cty Clare.
I am in contact with the decendant of the Kennedys in Sydney Australia. We discovered each other on the County Clare Genealogy Facebook page.
Regards and hope to connect to more relatives.

Hi Rosanna:
Glad to see that you are making a lot of connections with your family research!!
There is a local man in Broadford who may be able to assist. I will copy him the information and let you know what he has to say.
All the best,
Jane.
