Further to my earlier email about my great grandparents John Malone and Ann Burns I attach further detials of my research to date. Of course it is not conclusive and does not connect me to any exisitng Malones or Burns in the Lisdoonvarna region. So any help from locals in the area would be deeply appreciated. All the best. • Dear Peter:

Many thanks for your post and the attachment of your family research to date on the Malone and Burns families of Lisdoonvarna.

Unfortunately, as you have already stated, the parish registers are very late and too late to assist you with the Irish research.

I'm not sure what information can connect you locally to a specific family.  Have you put up an Ancestor profile?  That would be great if you could do that as the surnames will be noted and there may be others researching the same families.

    The link is here:  https://irelandxo.com/ireland-xo/history-and-genealogy

Having said that, I do see that both Gleninagh and Ballyvaghan graveyards are online through the Irish Graveyards commercial site.  This is free to search, and Ballyvaughan is quite a large graveyard.

Here is the link for you:  https://www.irishgraveyards.ie/search_page.php

Please let me know if you have any further questions.

    All the best,

    Jane

    Dear Jane

Thank you for your reply. Yes I have posted a profile for both John and Ann. Didn't have any luck searching those graveyards but will keep trying. I emailed about a month ago the Principal of St Endna National School who happens to be Michael James Malone. It's a long shot I know but no harm in trying!

I have found a number of baptisms for children of a James Malone (possibly a brother of my John) and Bridget O'Loughin in Lisdoonvarna between 1855 and 1865. The townland listed is Ramore or Reamore. Can you confirm for me where that townland is? or I wondered if it might be an abreviation for Rooskamore?

I hope you and your family are faring the current world-wide storm well.

    All the best

    Peter

  • Dear Peter:

I do not see the reference in the Ballyvaughan parish registers to the James Malone & Bridget O'Loughlin family that you mention.  What parish register are you referring to?  Can you send me a screenshot?

I will see what I can do to assist.

    All the best

    Hi Jane

I really appreciate your replies. I have attached a screen shot and pdf file of the Lisdoonvarna Baptism records listed on the Clare Library website.

    Many thanks. Peter

  • Hi Peter:

Thanks for that clarification.  I see that the Lisdoonvarna parish registers are not noted correctly under the Civil parishes of the website.  I will let the Library know about this.  Those registers deal with the Kilmoon civil parish.

The townland name of Reamore/Raymore is not one that I could find.  But, I did find a townland named Cahereamore in the civil parish of Kilshanny.  https://www.logainm.ie/en/6865?s=Cahereamore

There is also an interesting reference to it in the Schools' Folklore collection.  https://www.duchas.ie/en/cbes/4922369/4874921

I would guess that Raymore is an old placename if it is not associated with the above.  I will try to find someone with some knowledge of the old placenames there who might know.

    All the best,

    Jane

Hi again Jane and any other member of the XO Community in the Lisdoonvarna region,

I've done more research using the wonderful online resources of the Clare County Library. The results are by no means conclusive but they do begin to paint a picture of the life led by several Malone famlies in that area from the 1820s to the early 1900s.

If anyone has local info about any of the Malones mentioned in the attached document I would love to hear it.

    All the very best

    Peter Malone

Dear XO Community in the Lisdoonvarna region

I have done enough research now to know that my father's family definitely came from the Lisdoonvarna region, particularly the townlands of Rooska, Ballyinsheenbeg, Ballyinsheenmore and Ballytiege.  I would love to learn of the life and culture of my ancestors there and to share with any interested locals the experience of the Malones in Australia.

If anyone has suggestions about how I might best do that I'd love to hear them.

Wishing whoever may read this post, good health and safety throughout this new year.

    Peter

    Hi Everyone

Inspired by the "IrelandXO Insight - What is a townland?" email in Jan I have reviewed all the townlands that seem to be of interest for my search of the Malone family in the Lisdoonvarna region. I attach a copy of that research in case it may be of use to others (but apologies in advance for any errors I may have made!)

From that research I would particularly like to connect with any of the following families who may have had or still have connections with the townlands mentioned below:

Malone: Ballytiege, Ballyconnoe North, Ballingaddy East, Fahanlunaghta More, Castlequarter, Rinneen, Dough, Caherderry, Ballyfaudeen, Killaspuglonane and Silverhill. I also continue to look for a placename "Reamore/Ramore or Raymore". I have tried Cahereamore, Kilshanny and even Reamore in Kerry but I can't find any Malone records for those townlands. I am wondering if anyone may know if an Old Place Name of Reamore may have been part of one of the townlands mentioned above?

OBrien: Ballyconnoe North, Fahanlunaghta More, Carnaun, Faunarooska

    O'Loughlins/ O'Loughlens: Rooska, Carnaun

    Guthries: Knockaunvickteera

    Talty: Rinneen

    O'Donohue: Ballynahown

    Woods: Faunarooska

    Many thanks

    Hello again Lisdoonvarna Community

Thanks to information provided by a member of the local comunity I have had confirmed that Reamore was a sub-division of the townland Ballyteige. That leads me to really want to dig deeper into the life of James Malone and Bridget O'Loughlin who raised a family in Reamore from 1855 onwards.  I believe this Bridget lead a colourful life as "Biddy the Sulphur" and was born as a Guthrie. This would mean that she had a first marriage to an O'Loughlin before later marrying James Malone, which is supported by the fact that Bridget was considerably older than James. I would particularly like to find out who the parents of this James were. If they were James Malone and Bridget Quinn then he is my direct relative, a brother of my 2x Great Grandfather, John Malone.

Any help in exploring this family will once again be deeply appreciated.
