Conosig is certainly a rare name in Ireland. There was only one Conousig recorded in Griffith?s Valuation in the whole country:

Hello, my 3rd great grandmother was married under the name Ellen Scimillihane but her children were born with her name given as Mahony.  I have been told that Scimillihane is a "branch" name of Mahony.  I guess there may be other terms for this?  Family name?  what would you call it?  My question is that Conosig doesn't sound like a "real" name but a branch name for some one else and I wondered what??? could it be Neil??? (Ellen Mahony/Scimillihane married Jeremiah Neil) or Mahony?  Thanks.  

Irish Times didn't seem to find that name. And, the Griffiths reference is quite a ways from where my 3rd great grandparents lived?
