Searching for Dwyers and Connors

Civil registration began in Ireland in 1864 so any births, deaths or marriages in the family after this date would be recorded in these records. Civil records are available from the General Register?s Office. Here is their website:

Have you tried looking for Ellen and Timothy in the 1901/1911 census records? You can search these heer:

http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/

You could also try looking at church records to see if you can find any additional information on their parents. Most Catholic records are held locally so you may need to write to the local parish priest for possible assistance. One website that you may find useful is the Irish Times where they give an overview of what records are available in specific parishes. It also shows you where copies of the records are available. In addition to the search suggestions provided by Emma, I looked at the 1852 Griffiths Valuation head of household listing for Aghada civil parish. There were a number of Cashmans in the village of Whitegate.

Also, I found the baptismal index records for the four Dwyer children and the surname of the mother was shown as Connor on all four records.

I originally had the name as Connor and once Oconnor on the USA documents for Mary. When i was getting the Baptismal and Marraige info from RootsIreland.ie they had all the names as Connors. If its like the USA and Canadian records I've dealt with,record keeping was a little hazy back then

I see Patrick Dwyre(sp?) listed in the Griffith Valuation from Aghada. Both Timothy Dwyer's marraige and Patrick Dwyer's baptism had a Patrick Dwyer listed as a witness/sponser. Possible connection there??

I see Whitegate and Aghada are only 3 miles apart by goggle maps. Maybe i can find a baptism certificate on Margaret Cashman.

Looking at the marraige record of Timothy and Mary in 1869,I see that it was held in COBH parish. Am I right to assume that Mary came from that parish since weddings are usually held in the brides parish. Looks like COBH is across the harbor from Aghada where Timothy lived or was at least baptised.

I agree. Mary likely came from Cobh or near Cobh although in the 19th century, Cobh was called Queenstown.

Is that where many of the ships left for America in the late 1800's. I see Queenstown listed on many of the Ellis Island reports. Mary emigrated in 1890. 

Did ships leave for Australia from there. Ihavn't figured out how brother Patrick got to Australia and whether he came to America first. I know he ended up in Coolgardie in Western Australia looking for Gold and died of Influenza in 1917. We have 3 suriving letters from his wife that I was able to use to do some reseach on him otherwise never would know what happened.

Thanks again for all your replies. Hope to get back to Ireland sometime.and will make it a point to visit Cork. We went about ten yers ago before I developed an interest in the pat. We visited Dingle and Ring of Kerry. Enjoyed it alot.

Queenstown and Cobh are one and the same. Many ships left there for America.

I assume ships left Queenstown for Australia. Suggest you Google to verify.
