  • Hi Graham,

I'm not ure if I can be of any help to you, but my 3x great grandfather was Jeremiah/Darby Scannel born circa 1803 in Skibbereen area.  He married a Biddy/Bridget Cronin.  They  had a son Patrick baptised on 2 Jan 1829 and a daughter Ellen baptised on 2 Aug 1830, both in SKIBBEREEN (CREAGH & SULLON).  My 2x great grandfather, Denis was baptised on 17 Jan 1833 in Aughadown.  Margaret at the Skibbereen heritage Center told me that the name Scannel aans Scanlon were interchangable.  On 15 Feb 1841 in Aughadown, their daughter Bridget was born.

    Not sure if this helps,

    Annie

  • Hello Annie,            Thank you for your message, I cannot be certain if your Scannell family are linked to mine although the time scale and place are very significant.

Witnesses to my gr/grandpatents Patrick Scannell and Mary Cronin,s marriage were  Joannah Cronin and Timothy Buckley in 1859.  Another aspect is that they had

a son Dennis c1867 and a daughter Ellen c 1868.  The nearest i have got to their parents so far are as stated in my message above.

Thank you again for your message.

  • Have you checked withthe Skibbereen Heritage Center?  Margaret at the Center was helpful to me when I was looking for my Scannel/Scanlon family.
