William Young and Margaret McLean Young

I found four baptismal records for children of William Young and Margaret McLean/McLane as follows: Bartholomew May 3 1840 Mary June 26 1842 Nicholas March 23 1845 William June 11 1848

Thank you for your reply. I have used that site many times and have found the baptismal records you mentioned as well as the marriage record for William Young and Margaret McLean. I was hoping to obtain more information on them or their parents. I don't know William's parents names but Margaret's were Owen Mclean and  Ann Donovan. I believe I found a brother Florence McLean. I need information from around 1800-1840. Also, if William had relatives the names Nicholas and Bartholomew are very common to this day. My husband has a 1st cousin Nicholas whose father was a Nicholas and grandfather was Bartholomew.

Hello,

I am descended from a Frances Young born around 1800-1810 in Sherkin Island near Baltimore. She was Church of Ireland. She married Patrick Cadogan of Aughadown in 1828. I wonder if there is a connection? Nicholas is a common name in the Youngs though not in my family...my surname is O'Mahony. I haven't come across Bartholomews though!

Hi, I think I have a collection of old post cards that are related to your family. They are  addressed to Tessie Young, North St, Skibbereen sent from Agnes Young in Paris. There are also some addressed to Willie  and Eily Young and a Monsiur Buffet in Paris. I can’t make out the dates on any of the stamps but they are very old and most of them were sent from Paris to Skibbereen. There are some addressed to Mary Young also.

I know it has been a while since you posted.

I came across a burial record for St. Finbarr's cemetery, Glasheen Road, Cork City for a

William Young born Sherkin Island listed as a ship's captain.  He might possibly be the ancestor you are looking for.

From your message I thought he may have died in the US.

Nicholas Young died 18th August 1884 in Cork City Ireland.  He died from Bronchitis, aged 74 - so that would give him a 

birth year of circe 1810.  His religion - "Protestant".  His occupation Sea Captain on burial register but Master Mariner on death cert - Born Sherkin Island. He died at Hospital for Incurables, Military Road,Cork.   Unfortunately the register only gives the section he is buried in and does not  give the Row number or plot number.

They are all in alphabetical order so easy to find Nicholas.  

It does seem unusual that he was buried in Cork City but maybe he returned to Ireland from US  on his own and his family remained there.

Thank you Mary for the information. Nicholas could very well be William's brother. I had previously found some Masters/ Mate certificates in his name. It's interesting that his religion is listed as Protestant. William was Catholic. My husband said there was always a rumor in the family that they should have been Protestant. It's possible William returned to Ireland to visit aand died there. I've never found a death record for him in Massachusetts where he lived in the USA. The only information comes from his headstone which includes his date of death and birthplace, Baltimore, County Cork.
