I hope that someone researching the family will be in touch. Do you know if Patrick had any siblings? You could think about the possibility of tracing the Dillon name in the parish from the time of the Griffith's Valuation up to the 1950s and 1960s in the Cancelled Books (assuming that it, that not all of the family emigrated). There are a number of Dillon listings:

Unfortunately the Cancelled Books are not available online yet and can only be viewed at the Valuation Office in Dublin in person or through a researcher. You can find out more about them here:

I am not quite sure how your line connect to my fiance's but her ggg grandmother, Ellen Dillon, was born in Rosscarbery in 1833 to Pat Dillon and Mary Collins. Ellen was convicted of stealing in 1852 and sent as a convict to Van Diemen's Land (now Tasmania). She had brothers Michael and John (John served with the 27th Regiment of Foot in India). Coincidentally her only other relative mentioned on her convict record was an uncle named Edward Hayes. It would seem likely there is a connection between her line and yours on both the Dillon and Hayes lines so it would be good to compare notes as we learn more.

Hi David,

I have checked baptism records for Patrick(b. Ardagh Dec 26, 1816, son of Thomas Dillon and Catherine Donohue) and have found possible siblings that he might have had.  John Dilon, born Ardagh 1824.  I believe he came to America shortly before Patrick.  He lived in the same town in upstate NewYork, Trenton which is in Oneida County, NY.  Patrick, his wife Catherine Hease (Hayes), and daughters, Catherine(age 4) and Ellen(age 2) arrived in Trenton prior to the 1850 enumeration.  Enumeration was July 16, 1850.  They Arrived in New York City May 25, 1850 on the Isaac Webb.  My great grandfather, Timothy Francis Dillon was the first child of Patrick and Catherine to be born in the USA.  Seven more followed.

Other possible siblings of Patrick are:.

Mary b. Aragh November 1814-definitely his sister baptized on the same day as Catherine Hease (Hayes), who later married Patrick.  Marriage Ardagh Feb. 1, 1845

Francis and Timothy.  Don't have much information for them

Brick wall is Thomas Dillon and Catherine Donohue.  My guess is that the were married around 1810-1813in Ardagh.

Just a quick rundown on my fiance's line. Pat Dillon and Mary Collins had the following known chidren in Rosscarbery:

Michael - bapt 27 August 1824

Mary - bapt 20 December 1829

Catherine - bapt 7 December 1833

John - Yet to locate baptism

I have not yet found the marriage for Pat Dillon and Mary Collins or a definite birth for either. I am also yet to determine the exact connection of Edward Hayes but he must have married into either the Dillon or Collins line.

Should I come across anything connected to your line I will let you know.
