Hello,  I am new to this group.  I have ancestors who lived in Ballyclogh in the late 19th century/early 20th century.  I am hoping to visit the area later this year, and I was enquiring if anyone may have information about the Lysaght family, or indeed may be a descendant of this family.  Thank you.  Val

  • Can you provide more information? Names, spouses, birth/death dates if known, emigration, names of children? Thanks.

  • Hello Patricia,

Thank you for your response to my message.

My grandmother was Catherine Lysaght/Lysaight (sometimes known as Kath/Cath Mary/Kathleen) who was born in 1888.  She was baptised on the 10th March 1888 but I have not been able to find a birth certificate for her, although I have found such certificates for all of her siblings.  Catherine's parents were John Lysaght and Ellen O'Brien who married on the 10th August 1884.  John was born in 1857 and Ellen about 1861.

Catherine's siblings were James (Senior) (1885 who died in infancy), John (1886), James (Junior) (1890), Elizabeth (1892) and Patrick (1894).  All were born in Ballyclough/Ballyclogh.

Catherine married Eugene (sometimes known as Owen) Sullivan on the 1st March 1908 at Balllyclough/Ballyclogh.  Eugene (Owen) was born near Ballyvourney.

Catherine and Eugene subsequently emigrated with their children to the UK.

I have now had the opportunity to visit Cork, but sadly due to adverse weather, I was not able to visit Ballyclough.  I have tried several places to find Catherine's birth certificate, but have only found her baptism record.

I should be very interested to hear from you, in particular to know if you would be connected/related to any of Catherine's siblings.

    Valerie
