Vivian:
Enjoy your trip!
The 1852 Griffiths Valuation head of household listing shows that David and family lived in Ballyhooly South townland.
http://www.failteromhat.com/griffiths/cork/ballyhooly.htm
I also looked at the Roots Ireland indexes for baptisms in Castletownroche RC church. It looks like David and Johanna had two children before Patrick and they likely died young. There was a John in 1845 and a Johanna in 1847 which matches the names of the children born in the USA.
The National Library of Ireland plans to put all RC parish registers online for free searching later this summer.

Hello Vivian, www.nationalarchives.ie in the Griffith Valuation records it shows an entry for a Patrick Leahy in 1851 in Parish of Ballyhooly Co Cork Townland of GORTROCHE he seems to be a Farmer with a holding of c. 41 acres.
This hopefully will give you a lead as to the townland & you might be able to make some progress from there.
Did any family remain in Ireland?
I had a look at www.historicgraves.ie (a work in progress) for a possible burial location but no result.
By a coincidence my friend is a maiden name Stanton from the same area.
Good luck with your search. Have you looked at www.rootsireland.ie pay to view which has baptisms/marriages for the area.Regards, Frances

Hi Vivian,
My name is Neal Tasch, and I am descended from Catherine Leahy, daughter of David Leahy and Johanna Stanton. I was curious about where you found Johanna's parents' information, as I have different names for them. Thank you!
