Any information about Collins and Herlihy families from Ballyvourney will be much appreciated.
My Ggps, Daniel Collins and Ellen Herlihy immigrated to Newburyport, Massachusetts ca 1855. They both identified Ballyvourney as their place of birth but no townland name was identified.
Ballyvourney records are sparse, but I am reasonably certain of Daniel and Ellen's parents' names: David Collins and Peg Lynch;Cornelius Herlihy and Mary Murphy.
Thank you,
David Collins

David,
My gg grandmother was Julia Herlihy from Ballyvourney Parish. Back in the early 1800's, there was also a Kilnamartyra Parish, which sometime during the 1800's (mid?) became part of Ballyvourney Parish. I believe my Herlihy's were part of Kilnamartyra Parish. Julia married Cornelius Lynch around late 1840's, I believe in Kilnamartyra Parish. The Lynch's, who I am researching, came from the townland of Slievereagh in Ballyvourney Parish. I did find in Griffith's Valuation that there was a Herlihy in Slievereagh (around 1850). I don't know if this is related to your Herlihy's or not...

Hello David,
your post inspired me to post about a book Pat Herlihy has written - you can search for Herlihy and find that post, but I'll repeat a lot of it here:
My husband Tim Herlihy and I will be visiting Ireland (second time) in April from Australia, and in Ballyvourney on 25th and 26th April 2016. We will meet a cousin of my husband Pat Herlihy, who will come over from England to meet us, who last year published a book about Ballyvouney, called 'Ballyvourney 3501'. If interested in learning more you can contact Pat on ballyvourney3501@gmail.com.
In Chapter 15 Pat talks generally about the forces leading our Herlihys to leave Ballyvourney for Duhallow/Nohaval/Knocknagree. At the end of the book (Chapter 16) he briefly illustrates what he is talking about using our family of Herlihys, who moved from Kocknagree out into the wider world at the end of the nineteenth century. When I read that I was reminded of your post but could not find it at the time. Someone advised that I could search message board posts and so I found your again.
So I'll list some of the family names he mentions in case you think you might be related and want to chase a copy of the book.
Herlihy, Kelleher, (Coltzman), Clare (New York), Collins (Rathmore), Moynihan, William Herlihy to America (married Joanna Burns - a son FJ Herlihy with brothers ran 'Herlihy Mid-Continent' construction company, which built Upper and Lower Wacker Drive of 'Blues Brothers' fame! Lived in Chicago), Jeremiah to Chicago, Pat to New Zealand, James to London (our lot), Humphrey to India, John to death in the Boer War, South Africa, Catherine to America.Kelleher again, Washington State (William). My husband's g-grandfather James Herlihy married an O'Leary, who was elected Mayor of Deptford London but was not put in office because she refused to enter an Anglican Church to be sworn in.
My my email address is pherlihy3@gmail.com. So one of our Herlihys definitely married a Dr Collins, so maybe we are connected? Try contacting Pat Herlihy on ballyvourney3501@gmail.com as he is the one who wrote about it! I only know what he wrote!
Cheers!

I'm looking for a Julia Herlihy (daughter of Maurice Herlihy and Mary Lenihan) born about 1834 in Boherbue. She married a Peter Murphy (in Ireland????) and they emigrate to Detroit, Michigan by 1862 where their oldest child, Mary Murphy (my great grandmother) is born. I cannot find their marriage record in the USA. I also would like to find information on Peter Murphy.
Maurice Herlihy and Mary Lenihan have a few other children: Michael born 1826 in Leihi (?), Castleisland parish, then Julia born 1834 in Boherbue, Maurice born 1835 in Glentanefinnane, Kilmeen, and Mary born in 1841. Mary marries Cornelius Buckley and emigrates to Detroit also.
Baptismal sponsors: (For Michael) John Grany, Honorah Linehan,
Maurice Herlihy and Mary Linehan are baptismal sponsors in 1825 to a William Cronin, son of William Cronin and Julia Graney in Castleisland (Leihi).
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
