Searching for Patrick (J?) Quinn (1938?)

I have a 78 yr old New Zealand friend whose father was Irish. She has never known the Irish side of her family and would love to connect with them. The family moved from Limerick after 1901 to Bandon, Co. Cork (1911 census) where the father Thomas Quinn (married to Mary Anne / Marianne Kelleher) was Head Constable in the RIC.

There were 7 children, my friend's father Francis Bernard (1898), Bridget (1892), Mary Josephine (1894), Michael Joseph (1897), Thomas Joseph (1900), Margaret Aloysious (1903), and George Cyril (1908). Francis was a surgeon in the Royal Navy, studied in Cork and died there in 1957.

Only one other sibling married. I think it MAY have been Michael Joseph, who MIGHT have married a Hartnett and they MAY have had five children, Francis, Margaret J, Thomas M, Michael J and Patrick J Quinn(1938). My friend thinks she has a cousin Patrick and I am hoping they are the same person. He would be approximately 75. He MIGHT have married in 1957 and so would probably have his own children in their 40s and 50s.

There are quite a few Patrick / Pat Quinns in the Co. Cork telephone directory. I wonder if anyone would know of this family and could narrow down the possibilities?

My friend is moving out of her earthquake devastated home in Christchurch at the moment and I am hoping to have this information for her by the weekend ... : ) : ) : )

Thanks

  • Hi Becky

I have just had to get a new computer, so I haven't been able to access your email address, I have heard back from Eoghan and my cousin Eileen, part of his message Eoghan below is part of his msg

I spoke to my mother who works as an SNA in a local school in Cork. She works with a lady who is from Bandon. I gave my mother all of Ann Quin(n)'s details including her father and grandfather etc. and the potential cousin Patrick Quinn. She is going to get back to me at the end of the week to see if her friend who lives in Bandon can find out anything or if she knows whether there are any Quinns currently living in Bandon. I will also speak to my grandmother as she lived in Slieveown near Capeen and worked for years as a shopkeeper and barmaid in Bandon during the 1930s. She's getting a bit forgetful now, but I'll ask her if she remembers any Quinns or perhaps the grandfather Quinn who was head of the RIC.

My cousin replied that she will be away till early May but when she gets back she will also get onto it, Eileen & I both know how we felt last year when we made contact after 125 years,we made contact in time for her neice (a next generation cousin) came to NZ and for the first time in 125 years 3 branches of our family sat around the table together, so we know what it feels like.

Do send me an email so I have your address again
