We have ancestors from Blarney, Cork, Ireland named John and Johanna Carroll who emigrated to Australia in 1841 with their four children. We also have a Patrick Casey who was the son of Patrick and Mary Casey (nee Nugent) and baptised 21.11.1835 in Mitchelstown,Brigown, Cork who emigrated to Australia in 1864. If we travel to Ireland in the future is it possible for us to research to find a residential location at around the departure dates for either/both of these families who are closely related to us?

  • RootsIreland shows 9 baptisms for the Casey/Nugent offspring, through 1854.  They lived in the townland of Skeheen in Mitchelstown from at least 1846 on.  l

People did not move much in those days, so it is very possible the family lived in Skeheen at the time off emigration.

  • Thank you for the information in your reply Patricia. We will mark Skeheen down as a must visit location when we travel later this year ( Viruses permitting ). After looking at the map of the Skeheen area just now ,would I be right in thinking that Mitchelstown would be the best place to get more information about the Casey residential location in Skeheen?
