Trying to research my wife's Irish ancestors who were from Cloyne, County Cork:
William Shea was born 10 December 1867 in Cloyne - according to his naval records - but could have been born in nearby Farsid or Farside. He married Elizabeth Scannell who was baptised in Cloyne (St Colman's RC Church) on 23 June 1872 (her parents were Michael Scannell & Mary Coughlan).
William & Elizabeth were married on 12 April 1896 in St Colman's & their first two children died in infancy.
I think that William had at least two siblings - younger brothers Michael & Thomas - and Michael had two sons including Thomas J who was a Monsignor in Bellefonte, Pennsylvania.
Would love to hear from anyone who has ancestral connections to the Shea (or O'Shea's) and Scannell family names in the Cloyne area.
Rich.

Hello Richard,
This reply is well over 12 months since you posted your enquiry, but in case you're still interested, I am descended from Ellen Shea who was baptised at Rathcormac on 26 Aug 1792. Her parents were Richard Shea and Margaret née Leahy. She married Richard Corbet at Youghal, 5 March 1815. She died in 26 September 1857, Ballycotton. Her husband, Richard Corbet, of Cloyne, died the following month.
Her son, Edmund Edward Corbet, was baptised at Cloyne On 2 Jan 1821.
The only other reference I have of a Cloyne connection is an obituary which refers to her husband "of Cloyne". But all the places mentioned are in the Diocese of Cloyne. All records are Catholic.
