Jeremiah O'Keefe is my great grandfather, birth date 5 Mar 1817. I believe his father was Daniel O'keefe. The mother was listed as Bridget Rial. I am unsure if that is correct. Would anyone have additional information about the mothers name and if Jeremiah had siblings. I beleive he came to the USA in the 1840's. He married my great grandmother Mary Ryan 18 Feb 1854 in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Later they moved to Welch, Goodhue County, Minnesota. They are buried in St. Joseph's Cemetary, Miesville, Dakota County, Minnesota, USA.
Any help will be appreciated. Thank you. Margaret

Margaret:
Not sure where you obtained the information on Bridget's surname. Roots Ireland www.rootsireland.ie has an 1817 baptism for a Jeremiah O'Keefe born to Daniel and Bridget.Rial. There were no other baptisms on Roots born to Daniel O'Keeffe and Bridget Rial. Doneraile RC records are available starting in 1815 so it is possible that if Jeremiah was one of the younger children, the older children were born before 1815.
I looked at the 1852 Griffiths Valuation head of household listing for Doneraiule parish. It looks like the spelling of Bridget's name was actually Ryall. http://www.failteromhat.com/griffiths/cork/doneraile.htm
I also looked at the 1833 Tithe Applotment listings for Doneraile parish. www.titheapplotmentbooks.nationalarchives.ie
There were 4 Ryalls and 5 Okeeffes in Doneraile. No Daniel listed. There is a Ryall and a Okeeffe in Carkerbeg townland.

Thank you so much for your response and the information. My husband and I are in Cork attending the UCC Irish Genealogy Summer School. We have kept time free next week to do more research. The program and speakers have been very good. There is much information to try and absorb. The spelling and locations name changes have been difficult for me.
Thank you again. Margaret

Margaret,
Jeremiah is my 3rd great grandfather. Did you ever confirm anything more about his parents? What can you tell me about Mary Ryan. The story I was told is that they met in NY and were married there. I don't have any documented evidence of this, just heresay from older relatives.
I am not an expert at this stuff, just having fun putting together lots of obituatry notices and old newpaper articles. I just figured out hat Jeremiah in buried in a small towh just SE of the St.Paul MN area. I have driven past the cemetary many times. Will be making a visit soon. The rest of the O'Keefe's are buried in Calvary Cemetary in St Paul.
Thank you for any info you can provide.

Sorry about the poor spelling. More evidence that a person should always reread their note before submitting it.
