I am trying to figure out if my great great grandfather, Timothy Deasy, is from Drimoleague, Cork.

What I know about Timothy:

  1. Timothy Deasy was born sometime between 1826 to 1833  (from U.S.  documents)  At some point he emigrated to the US and married Ellen Lane in Massachusetts in 1859.
  2. Timothy and Ellen had 8 children born in CT. Julia,James,Ella,Minnie,Tim jr,Daniel,John, Annie.
  3. His father is Denis Deasy (from marriage doc)
  4. His mother is Julia.  In the 1860 US census she is living with Timothy in Middleton CT. She is listed as 56 yrs old so born in 1803.  I am assuming Denis has died.
  5. He has a sister, Ellen, also living in 1860 with Timothy in CT.

What I found:

Tim Deacy, bapitzed 12 December 1824 in Drimoleague, parents Denis Deacy and Julian Molony, sponsors Con Deacy and Mary Deacy.

I am thinking Julian is probably Julia?

Denis and Julian also had a daughter Ellen born in 1836.

They also had other children – Mary, Nora, and Cate.  I found the baptism certificate for them.

So the names seem to fit for the family.  Anyone have an idea of how I can confirm this is the right family?

Thanks in advance.  Lisa

  • Lisa,

I would be happy enough with that amount of information. Quit often, a best estimate is needed as records aren't always available for further proof.

At that time, Julian was a relatively common female name. As a hobby, I transcribe headstones and I come across the name Julian fairly regularly.

    Best wishes, Kieran
