Hello  I am looking for my gt gt grandfather RICHARD COLLINS who I think was born circa 1762 in the area of Fanlobbus.  His trade was a weaver.  He joined the 58th Regiment of Infantry late in life and was transferred to the 10th Royal Regiment of Veterans in 1819.  He was discharged from the army in March 1821.  He had a son also RICHARD circa 1811.  Richard (Junior) came to England in 1833 lived in Cheshire for some years then moved to Salford Lancashire and died there in 1895.

Any help in finding Richard (senior) would be much appreciated.

  • Thank you for your replys.  I have a little more information with regard to Richard Collins (Senior). At the time he was in the Regiment of Veterans he was in Kilmainham Hospital.  On release from Hospital he went to Buttevent and was discharged from there on the 24th March 1821 and his papers indicate he went back to live near Cork.  On his discharge Richard would have been about 59 years old.  His papers also state that he was "Worn Out" so one may assume that he just may have died before 1830.  At his discharge his son also Richard  would have been about 11 years old.

So I seem to be looking for a very old worn out man with a wife who would be a lot younger than him and has an 11 year old boy who was living near Cork.

Thank you, thank you very much for all your help.   Malcolm

  • Hello Col     Sorry about that you are right with the ? .  Looking at all the figures infront of me I added

where I should have taken away.  Born in 1762 so when he was discharged from the army in 1821 he would

have been c59 years of age.   Put it down to me being rather old!!!!!

    Many thanks  Malcolm
