Have you had a look at irishgeanalogy.ie to see if you can find any further information about Jane and her family? I see Jane?s baptism details are there if you do not know them fully already.

Roman Catholic records for the parish of Dunmanway begin in 1818. So, for any of your ancestors born or married in this parish before this time there will be no parish record of the event.

We don?t have a volunteer in Fanlobbus as yet but you could search the 1901/1911 Census, the latest online source available for instances of the family name

Thanks for the reply. I did use the Irishgenealogy.ie to find their church records. It's a great resource, and I'm recommending it to distant cousins I meet through 23andMe (genetic genealogy service) who have ancestry from Cork & Kerry.

I'll poke around the census to see who was still around in Fanlobbus/Ardcahan with our surnames.

Is 23andMe commonly used in Ireland, or is there a similar genetic ancestry service used there? Is Facebook the most popular social media site there? Just trying to think of additional ways to connect.

Lastly, have you used the rootsireland.ie site, and does it contain other counties' records? Is it a useful resource?

I ask because I think I may have Irish ancestry in other counties not listed at irishgenealogy.ie. Jennie married Charles Augustine O'Connor, whose parents were Patrick O'Connor and Bridget Duffy. Their parents were Thomas O'Connor and Mary Clancy and Henry Duffy and Rose Molloy/Malloy. Using surname searches, I see that the surnames are widely distributed, and I can't find any good leads in the parish records at irishgenealogy.ie. My mother says her father and grandfather said that their family was originally from Roscommon, but I don't know if they meant their specific family line or the O'Conor Don generally. :)

I don?t know an awful lot about the DNA side of things. It wouldn?t be on a lot of peoples radar here but is increasingly popular.

Facebook is probably the best way to connect in terms of social media. We have a facebook page at www.facebook.com/IrelandXO. We ask that people take care though in terms of the information they post, so that the privacy and data protection rights of living individuals are protected.

Rootsireland.ie does contain the records for other counties. It is not a complete set but a very good resource if used with irishgenealogy.ie
