My great grandparents, Michael Stackpole & Mary Reynolds (or Hawe in some records), came to Canada, with 4 children, from Glanworth, about 1827-1828. They settled in Bytown, now known as Ottawa, Ontario.
The children were Mary, Johanna, Bridget & Michael Jr.
Michael Sr & Mary married bef. 1818.
In the publication "The McCabe List", (by Bruce S Elliot), the name of Michael's brothers, William & John are found. They were in Grange, County Cork, and also came to Canada with their families to settle in Ottawa. They were "known to" Lieut. Roberts of Shanballymore. Michael was asked if he had family in Ireland that might be interested in coming to canada as well. Some Irish in Ottawa were recruited by Peter Robinson to work on the Rideau canal.
I am looking for the names of Michael's parents and or Mary's, and anything about their life in Ireland. I'm sure they left to find a better life.

Thank you for your message and also for your offer to share information. I hope that someone makes a connection with you and can help you fill in some of your gaps.
Civil registration did not begin in Ireland until 1864 so for records of births, marriages, deaths prior to this you have to look at Church records.
Unfortunately, Catholic records for Glanworth parish do not begin until 1836. You can see this on the Irish TImes website:
Church of Ireland records generally tend to have an earlier start date, so if the family followed this church you may be lucky and find a birth record for Michael and Mary, which will list their parents names. If you could find their marriage record it may also list the couple?s fathers? names. For information on CHurch of Ireland records check:

I did a search of the Stackpole surname in the Tithe Applotment Books. These are land records compiled between 1823 and 1837 in order to determine the amount which occupiers of agricultural holdings should pay in tithes to the Church of Ireland. However they do not give any genealogical information, so it is hard to determine what records are relevant to you. If you would like to see the results anyways though, you can find them here:

Hi Emma,
I want to thank you for all your help. I have been away from researching, but will have time over the winter. I've checked some of the websites, but as you told me, there isn't much as my relatives are Catholic.
I will be patient, and hope that someone will get in touch. But for now I will gather as much as I can find on this side, here in Canada.
