    Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!

Was Maurice Roman Catholic? The RC parish for Kilbolane civil parish would be Freemount but records for that parish start in 1827. Do you have a baptismal record for Maurice or was heis year of birth passed down through your family?

  • Hi Roger.  According to family records, and I will state from the family tree. ( Maurice Oswyn Kelly was born into a catholic family in Milford Kilbolane Parish, Kilbolane Poor Law Union, near Kanturk In County Cork Ireland in 1822. He became a Mounted Constable at Phoenix Park Dublin under the command of Robert O'Hara Burke. Burke later came to Australia and Died on an exploration Misssion with a man called Wills. Well Known in Aus as the Burke and Wills expedition.

He Married Anna Maria Reid on 10/5/1850 at Blanchardstown , Dublin

Anna was born in 1831 at Cabragh, North Dublin.

We do not have any records to prove his birth date,  However it is on his head stone

    Regards

OK so we won't be able to locate a church baptismal record for Maurice. Below are two information links.

1828 is a whole lot better than 1822. Here is a link to the register. The record is on the right hand side page.

Benjamin is three months later than Maurice so he must be from a different family?

Roots Ireland did not have any other children in Milford RC parish with parents Patrick Kelly and Ellen Connors.

Here is the complete Milford register http://registers.nli.ie/parishes/0052

  • Roger  . On the Milford Register as above Benjamin is shown with the same Parents and the Same Sponsers, perhaps he was a recent arrival and baptised ASAP. To similar to be from a different family I would think, Perhaps I am wrong , but the details seem to fit. I do not know how to trace Patrick and Ellen so I may Give Benjamin a run.
