Hello,
I am interested in hearing from anyone who can help me put together the Walsh and Canty families who lived at Cloncrew in Milford, Cork.
Edmundus Walsh married Mary Canty pre 1827. They were Roman Catholic.
They had 5 children:
Mary born pre 1827 married Finn
Bridget baptised 1 Oct 1828, emigrated to America.
Edmund baptised 19 Aug 1831
Catherine baptised 17th Feb 1834
Ellen baptised 2 July 1836
Ellen married Daniel Sharpe at Kilbolane on 1st February 1860. He was Protestant. They lived at Glenfield near Liscarroll.
We believe Edmundus had a brother called Maurice Walsh who had a daughter Catherine born 1836. She married James Culhane. Catherine and James possibly had a daughter, Sarah Culhane who married Dan/Tom Canty.
I see that in 1766 there were Canty's at West Bowensford, in the civil parish of Kilbolane, where they had a 31 year tenancy:

I look forward to hearing from you.

Dear Karen:
Many thanks for your post to the Ireland Reaching Out message board.
The parish of Milford is in the civil parish of Kilbolane. There isn't any townland listed by the Clouncrin name--but it's possible that that name is no longer in use.
Where did you find that particular name used? Was it on a document?
All the best,
Jane.

Walsh/Canty families at Cloncrew, Kilbolane
Dear Jane,
Thank you very much for your reply. Yes, Clouncrin was what was written as residence of Ellen Walsh on her marriage certificate at Kilbolane from 1860.
However I understand this is actually Cloncrew, which lies on the Limerick//Cork border. Does their house still exist? I understand there is a cemetery at Cloncrew. I have not seen any remaining or visibly inscribed Walsh/Canty graves.
I have corrected Clouncrin to Cloncrew in my earlier post.
Many thanks,
Karen

Dear Karen:
Thanks for your reply.
Yes, there is a graveyard at Cloncrew and it has been recorded with the Historic Graves project. The link is below:

I did a quick look for you but did not see any of the Walsh, Canty or Sharpe surnames, however it is still worth looking at.
In addition, there is a map feature on the site that will give information about other graveyards close by which may also assist you.
The West Limerick Resources group recorded these headstones and they are very active in the area. I will alert one of them to your post as they may be able to add further information.
All the best to you with your research.
Kind regards,
Jane.
