I am looking for information on a pair of sisters who married a pair of brothers in the 1820s and 30s.

What I have so far:

Julia Burke (b. ~1806) and Catherine Burke (b.~1810) married brothers John Nunan (b. 1797) and Joseph Nunan (b. 1807).

Julia and John (MAYBE m Clonmel 1829) had 7 children: Ellen (possibly conceived before marriage), Jane, William, Thomas, Julia Ann, John, and Catherine (b between 1829 and 1844). These are my great-great-great-grandparents.

Catherine and Joseph had 4 children (MAYBE m Dromtariff 1834): William, John, Thomas, and Catherine (b between 1835 and 1844)

I know John and Joseph's father was William. They had three other siblings--Catherine, William, and Mary--who all died young of fever in 1808. Catherine and William are buried in a joint plot in Kilcorcoran (plot 182), but I do not know where Mary is buried.

I would like to know if anyone has any information on any of these wonderful people. I have not been able to find the name of John and Joseph's mother, nor the names of Julia and Catherine's parents or possible siblings.

Any help would be appreciated!

  • Hi Rachel,

You mentioned Kilcorcoran, there are two Kilcorcoran, there are two places with the same name , one in County Clare and one in County Cork.

The fact that you mention Dromtariff, I suppose you are looking for the Cork Kilcorcoran, I will have a look and see what I can find

  • First of all, Julia married John Nunan in 1829 County Waterford, unless there was another couple with the same name. No marriage record  found for Catherine and Joseph

Checked the baptism records but the names are too common,  22 Catherine Burkes baptised in and around 1810,  and multiple Julia's the closest match is a Julia Burke baptised in 1806 County Wicklow,  but no Catherine born in Wicklow.

Also two matches  for a baptism of John Nunan,  1794 county Cork father William and  1800 county Limerick also father William, no record  for Joseph

Checked for children of John and Julia (source www.rootsireland.ie a pay to view the record site)
