Dear Roger,
Please excuse my delayed response. I was very excited to read your message. Thank you so much for writing.
Andrew Fitzgerald and Joann (or Joan) Delany were witnesses for Julia's baptism, so maybe Joanne Delany is a sister of Ellen Delany, Julia's mother. I also have seen Hugh Delany's name, and it appears he is Ellen Delany's father. I have file folders full of documents and I am trying to put the pieces of this delightful puzzle together. Hugh was in the USA also.
Yes, the entire family emigrated and in some of my documents, I saw the list of all the children and parents on a ship. I am looking for it still, but I did just see Terrence Desmond's naturalization papers during the year 1855, and it swears that he has been in the US for the previous 5 years.
Thank you so very much for this information.
Now I am trying to find Julia's husband, my great grandfather, from Waterford, (Dungargen/Clashmore) Timothy Whelan, parents Alicia Hackett and Richard Whelan. I found a sister, Mary's baptism certificate (1835) but cannot find Timothy (about 1835-38). I grew up in his house in Marlborough, Massachusetts, so I heard about him every day of my life. He arrived in America when he was pretty young. He fought in the Civil War for Lincoln, and he was stationed on the ship, the USS Constellation, which searched and intercepted slave ships. I have a picture of him.
Should I add another parish for this?
Again, thank you. I would love to find any family in Ireland.
Best,
