My maternal Granddad was Patrick Moran born in Aughagrania, Drumshanbo, Co Leitrim in 1876, he was one of 17 children. He left Ireland in his early 20's and trained as a stonemason in Scotland before moving to Middlesbrough in North Yorkshire, England in 1901, to work on the stone fascia of the Middlesbrough Opera House.
He met and married Ethel Dennis in 1902, by then he had changed his name to Peter. Tthey settled in Middlesbrough, Yorkshire, where their family of 2 boys and 5 girls were born. Following an accident at work, Peter died in 1934, two of his daughters pre-deceased him in childhood, and his wife, Ethel married again many years later. My Mum was his last surviving child and died at the age of 93 in 2010. There are now 6 Grandchildren of Patrick and Ethel in Canada, and 7 in England.

Hi there,
Thank you very much for your query to Ireland Reaching Out. You are fortunate in that Patrick/Peter left so many clues behind him. Have you check the General Register Office (GRO) for his birth record? You should find additional information about him, such as his parents names, etc.
Also try the land record called Griffith's Valuation (1848-64). When you find out his parents names, then you can consult this for information about where they lived.
There could be records about the construction of the Middlesborough Opera House in Middlesborough. Consult any available records, as these could give information such place of origin, age, pay, maybe even where he trained.
Best of luck in your research!
Kind regards,
Sinead Cooney
