For your information, Carrick-on-Shannon is in the parish of Kiltoghert, which is perhaps why Kiltoghert is mentioned.

You are absolutely right to check all variant spellings of the surname. Don't forget to check McGreevey and McCreevey and McCreevy. You can see other variants here: http://www.irishtimes.com/ancestor/surname/index.cfm?fuseaction=Go.&UserID=

There are Roman Catholic church records available for the diocese of Kiltoghart (Ardagh and Clonmacnois). These date from 1826 for baptismal records and 1832 for marriage records and burial records. You can find these at the National Library of Ireland, Pos. 4240, or the Church of Latter Day Saints, ref. no. 1279223 item 4-5. If you have any difficulty, you could try writing to the parish priest for more assistance. I realise that this starts a little too late for the baptismal record, but perhaps you can find other relevant records.

You might find Peter Healy's parents names on the 1796 Spinning Wheel Premium List. There are 1,875 names for Co. Leitrim. This is available here: www.failteromhat.com

You could also try checking the land records called the Tithe Applotment Books (1823-38) or the later Griffth's Valuation (1848-64). Griffith's is freely available here: www.askaboutireland.com or here: www.failteromhat.com Failte Romhat has lots of other useful links you could try looking at.

There is a book you might find useful by Noel Farrell called Exploring Family origins in Carrick-on-Shannon (1994). And another by Rev. J. Monahan called Records relating to the Diocese of Ardagh and Clonmacnoise, (1886).

On the possibility that he was still in Leitrim during this time, there are documents related to the landed estate of Sir Humphrey Crofton. These cover the Kiltoghert area. Includes rental books, March 1833, with tenants' names in alphabetical order. National Library of Ireland, Ms. 4531. Also the Earl of Leitrim: Rental and Accounts 1837-42 (NLI Ms. 12787). All tenants. Includes Kiltoghert. Also Charles Manners St. George: annual accounts and rentals (NLI Ms. 4001-22). This covers the townlands in the civil parish of Kiltoghert.
