Good morning!
I have just found my 2nd GGF William Francis Cotter, son of Thomas Cotter and Elizabeth in the Lisgoold parsh records. He was baptized 7 Aug 1824.
I found 18 Thomas Cotters in Grffith's 1835 valuation, only one of which fell into the Lisgoold parish. He was in Ballynakilla, Ballycurrany civil parish, whichs looks to be about 15 miles from the town of Lisgoold.
My question is this: given the distance between Ballynakilla and Lisgoold, is it likely Thomas and Elizabeth brought their infant to Lisgoold to be baptized or were there clergy spread around the parish who performed rites and had them later recorded at the central office?
Can you recommend any material I could read on the local conditions in the 1820s?
Thank you in advance,

Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!
If I have the correct Ballynakilla, it looks like the distance between Ballynakilla and Lisgoold is only 6.4 kilometers (according to Google Maps) which is about four miles. Likely if they had access to a cart, they went to the church in Lisgoold. It is also possible there was a chapel nearby and the priest did the baptisms and recorded the info in the parish register. Can't help with reading material on local conditions Here is a link with some information.
