HARRINGTON - City of Cork

I will be in Ireland next month and I am looking for anyone doing research on my HARRINGTON family from Cork or can offer any suggestions or assistance.

James HARRINGTON was the son of Edward HARRINGTON and Margaret O’BREIN.

He died Jan 5, 1904 in New York City, NY. Age 63 and 9 months. His death certificate listed his birth as County Cork, Ireland and he was in US 10 years.

James Harrington married:

Mary COLEMAN, daughter of Michael COLEMAN and Elizabeth SULLIVAN

Mary (Coleman) Harrington died on Jan 29, 1919 in New York City, NY. She was a widow, age 66, born 1853, Ireland. She had been in United States for 30 years.

According to the 1910 Census Mary (Coleman) Harrington immigrated in 1882.  She had 10 children born and 8 were still living.

The known children of Mary (COLEMAN) and James HARRINGTON:

1. Margaret HARRINGTON, born Mar 9, 1864 in the city of Cork, Ireland. (Irish Civil Registration) Her parents were James HARRINGTON and Mary COLEMAN. Their address was 2 Bolston Alley. Her father’s occupation was listed as a Tobacco Twister.

Margaret married James McDERMOTT in New York City, NY on Dec 4, 1896. James was from Sligo and his parents were Mary (Costello) and James McDermott. Witnesses to the marriage were Thomas Corcoran?? & Ellen McDermott. (civil record)

Margaret and James married in on Dec 4, 1896 in the Church of St. Michael, 424 W 34th in New York City, NY. Witnesses were Thomas Boreoran and Ellen McDermott. (church record)

Margaret (Harrington) McDermott died on Oct 5, 1943, in Suffolk County, New York at age 91 years and 7 months. 

They had several children.

2. John Harrington: born Feb 6, 1868, Cork, Ireland. Civil registration.

3. Bessie Harrington:  born Jan 27, 1870, Cork, Ireland. Civil registration.

Eliza Harrington:  (Baptism) Jan 30, 1870, St. Finbarr’s South, Cork, Ireland. Cork & Ross (Roman Catholic) Sponsors Michael Harrington and Ellen Harrington.

4. Mary Harrington: (Baptism) Feb 5, 1873, St. Finbarr’s South, Cork, Ireland. Cork & Ross (Roman Catholic) Sponsors John Batte and Julia Butter.   Mary was born Feb 5, 1873, Cork, Ireland. Civil Registration.

5. Hanora (Nora) Harrington:

Born Dec 10, 1874, Cork, Ireland. Civil Registration.

Baptism Dec 16, 1874, St. Finbarr’s South, Cork, Ireland. Parish. Cork & Ross (Roman Catholic) Sponsors William Murphy & Bridget Moyniham. DOB listed was Dec 11, 1874.

Nora Harrington married Thomas W. Julian in Manhattan, New York on June 1, 1903. born Co Cork, Ireland, Single, 1st marriage, parents James Harrington and Mary Sullivan. Witnesses Harry Hagan and Della Julian.   No children.

Nora’s Social Security application listed her date of birth Mar 10, 1871 and her parents were Mary Coleman and James Harrington.

Death certificate for Nora (Harrington) Julian lists her age as 95. She died June 15, 1972, in New York. Born Mar 10, 1877, Ireland. Parents James Harrington and Mary Coleman.  Catherine O’Reilly, her niece was the informant.

6. Michael Harrington: Baptism Aug 1, 1877, St. Finbarr’s South, Cork, Ireland. Cork & Ross (Roman Catholic). DOB July 30, 1877.

7. James Harrington:  of 67 Tower St, Baptism Oct 22, 1879, St. Finbarr’s South, Cork, Ireland. Parish. Cork & Ross (Roman Catholic). DOB Oct 16, 1879.

8. Catherine:  ca 1885.  (found on 1910 census with mother)
