  • Hi,

I have been researching your relative David Kinry. I found the following information on http://www.rootsireland.ie/. There exists two baptismal records for the time period of 1830 to 1840. However I quickly noted there was a difference in the spelling of the sirname you gave.

Both people gave their sirnames ans Keniry, and Kenniry. I also found a baptismal record for two people called Thomas in 1837,but not Andrew on the same site. To explain the differences in the spelling of the sirname you have got.

I am going to put forward that when your ancestors went to America their sirname's were spelled phonetically(how they sounded) by American officials. Considering many Irish people at this time were illiterate it is not unusual they would not have signed their own names on documents.

If any of these people are David,or Thomas the baptismal records should tell you their parents in particualr the unknown Mothers name. To get these records you will have to pay a fee. Alternatively you could contact the chapel at http://www.shandonbells.ie/contact-us.html.

It is likely the chapel will have relevant records for your relations. Records in particular will include baptismal documents, and marriage certificates. The church itself is in Cork city Cork, and since you have mentioned your family may have attended it contacting it could help.

If you require anymore help let me know.

    Kind Regards

    Shane Burke
