  • Arthur Carson was born(1820) in County Down according to records found at the historical Society in Michigan USA.

I am not sure when they came to America  however, I think they came to New York..

He was a business man of note for the time, and the founder of the village of Carsonville, in Michigan, USA and is buried there. I have visited there and I have the information from the tombstone. He had 5 children one of whom was also named Arthur Carson -  all of whom were born in Carsonville. Arthur(jr) was my grandfather.

I want to know where he and his parents lived in Ireland and when they emmigrated . I am coming to Ireland in May.

  • Hi Jane

If you have checked the emigration records and are having no luck we suggest that you make contact with the Ulster Historical Foundation:

    http://www.ancestryireland.com/index.php?ai_home

There is a long history of Carson Families moving to Northern Ireland  from Scotland during the era of the plantations. There may be somebody at the foundation that will be able to assist you in your search.

    Kind regards,

  • Arthur Carson was born in County Down Ireland on Oct.24th 1820.

He was the only child of Samuel Carson and Alice (Quinn) Carson. His father (ie Samuel) died in Belfast in 1853.

Arthur Carson was married twice..first to Martha Crorey  on Dec.5 1848 in County Down..Martha was the daughter of John and Jane (Harrison)Crorey... she died in Carsonville in 1869. In 1870 Arthur married Jane Cowan in Detroit Michigan

Jane Cowan, Arthur's second wife, was born in Tipperary in June 1840.

Carson came to America in 1850... I assume via New York.

I cannot find any information about this family on any of the free websites you sent ot me.

I would like to confirm this information and know which village, city or parish they came from.

    thanks so much.
