Hi, I recently found my Minihan family listed in the 10 Jan 1846 Ire Census in Ballinbrittig, Carrigtwohill.  My 2x great grandfather, John Keleher married a Mary Minihan and the house he purchsed was #28, and a William Meenahan had #27 and Michael Meenahan had #29.  It seems John Keleher moved into the Meenahan area, possibly after an inheritance from a recently deceased father.

I am looking for any additional info anyone can provide regarding the Meenahan and Keleher families.  Thank you.

I'm not familiar with an 1846 census for Carrigtwohill parish.

I did check the 1834 Tithe listings for Ballinbrittig townland and there were only two records. One for an Edward Keeffe and the other for a Richard Keleher whom was leasing 39 acres of land. Was Richard the father of John?

The 1852 Griffiths Valuation head of household listing shows 41 records for Ballinbrittig. There were no Keleher records but there is a record for William Meenahan.

On the subscription site Roots Ireland, I did locate a February 14 1833 marriage between Mary Minahan and John Keliher at Carrigtwohill RC church. I also located baptismal record for Elizabeth December 25 1838 David June 6 1841 Bridget August 22 1843 all in Carrigtwohill. I assume there were more children? • Hello and thank you.  My John married Mary Minihan in Carrigtwohill on 14-Feb-1833.  I mis-spoke earlier, it ws Griffriths Valuation where the Meenahan/Keleher connection was discovered.  Richard could hvae been John's father, but as of this moment, I'm not sure.  I believe there is a Keefe/Keleher connection somewhere in the line.  I saw an Abigail Keefe as a sponsor to some Keleher births.   Mary Minihan-Keleher immigrated to Massachusetts between 1860-1870.  Her daughters, Elizabeth and Abigail, as well as son David (my great-grandfather) also immigrated to Massachusetts.  David immigrated in 1866.  There was another daughter Bridgit, but I lost track of her.

On Mary Minihan-Keleher's death certificate, her parents were listed adn John and Abby.

I appreciate any/all help that you can provide.  Thanks, Annie

  • Annie:

When you look at the Tithe listing link I sent previously, you will note that besides Richard Keleher there was an Edward Keeffe also leasing land in Ballinbrittig.

I did not locate a baptismal record for Mary meenahan Keleher.

  • Thank you Roger.  Mary also had a brother or cousin Edward Minihan born in Carrigtwohill approx 1816.  He, like Mary immigrated to Massachusetts; Edward immigrated in 1842/1844.  I was this info on his intent for naturalization form.
