Hi,
I am looking for information on my paternal grandfather. His name was JEREMIAH JOSEPH O'SULLIVAN.
He was born on the 15th August 1902 and lived in Co. Cork. Unfortunately I have no living relatives left to gain any more information as to where he lived. I know he joined the Free State Army and later joined the British Army, his regiment was the 8th Kings Hussars and he served in Germany where he married Sarah Beatrice Doyle (form Kilkenny) in January 1929 in Weisbarden. He was part of the British Expeditionary Forces and was in Dunkirk in 1939 where he was injured.
He had three sons, Patrick, Kevin and Brian. In 1937/8 he lived in Guildford, Surrey where he was an Estate Manager for Major General Whitbread on the Warren Mere Estate. He lived in Brentwood, Essex in the 1970's. He died in 1978 aged 76.
I am looking for any information relating to his early childhood, who his parents were and whether he had any siblings.
Many thanks for any help you can give me.
Kim

Kim:
I looked at the records in www.irishgenealogy.ie which has the records for the Diocese of Cork and Ross including Passage West/Monkstown parish but I could not find any 1902 baptismal records for a Jeremiah Joseph O'Sullivan.
I assume since you posted in Passage West that you have info that indicates he was from that parish.

Kim, do you have a copy of his marriage record as it would show his fathers name.
If you obtain his Enlistment Army record it usually has details of his origins in Ireland also.
www.nationalarchives.ie for 1911 census in Ireland. There are a few entries for the name & approx age he would be in 1911 om County Cork, but without details of his residence you cant be sure. How do you have his date of birth?
His Army record can be obtained in Kew in London if you browse www.nationalarchives.co.uk you will find a searchable database for Army personnel.Regards Frances

Hi Kim, I hope this message finds you well.
I came across your post on this board by searching the names Jeremiah Joseph O'Sullivan and Sarah Beatrice Doyle on google. I was searching these names because I recently discovered that your grandfather was in fact my grandfather's biological father. My granddad was adopted at just a few months old. This may come as a shock to you but if you would be interested to find out more, then please do respond to this message or I can give you more contact details.
I found out more from your original message than we've been able to find ourselves, so even if you don't want any further contact, I really appreciate that.
Kindest regards from a distant relative,
Shannon Linton (Smart)
