My GGGrandfather Philip Shanahan 1796-1892 Dunbeacon Cork  married Anne Townsend 1812-1867

Birth registration 5th August 1796 Skull

His father was Daniel Shanahan1776 - 1891 married to Bridget Houley

 

Philip & Anne had 13 children

Daniel, Michael ,Bridget ,Mary Ann, John, Philip, Margaret  ,Anne, William, Denis, Julia ,Bartholomew (my GGrandfather) & Timothy

Bartholomew Shanahan was from Bantry Bay & was sponsored by his brother Michael to Australia along with Julia, Timothy, & Ann

I am looking for more information on where the family lived and what type of work they did and where my G Grandfather Bartholomew went to school.

I will be visiting Ireland from Australia  in August 2024 & was hoping to maybe find the cemetry Philip & Anne were buried and maybe where they lived

    There is a baptismal record for Bartholomew on Irishgenealogy (free website) Church Records. He was baptized August 22, 1851, in Shull East.

    There are trees on Ancestry that suggests Bart went to the US and stayed with his brother William before going to Australia. He was married in Australia in 1884.

    This might be a stretch. Julia's age might be wrong but that happens. I have no record of her birth. Several of the trees suggest that the family was from Dunbeacon, Durrus, Cork.

    The Dunbeacon Cemetery has several Shanahan gravesites clustered in the same area. On the homepage there are the coordinates to find the cemetery plus a pdf that sketches the cemetery and designates graves by number. Ann's grave is #9. I assume Philip is buried there.
