would be very grateful for your help concerning family history. I have been conducting genealogical research for my cousin and while I've made substantial progress there are some records I can't seem to access online?

The family I am researching is Donnelly of Ballydawley, Artrea civil parish(Moneymore RC parish?).

James Donnelly married Lucy Corr c.1859, but I've been unable to access a suitable website to see the marriage record. Could you help with that?

Their children were John, bap 01/04/1860, Mary, bap 01/02/1863, James, bap 12/06/1864, Thomas bap 04/06/1866, Margaret, bap 19/04/1868, Joseph, bap 22/03/1870, John 10/07/1873(first John must have died in infancy) Peter, bap 28/07/1875, Francis born c.1878, Margaret born c.1880(first Margaret must have died in infancy).

James Donnelly senior would have been born c.1835 and Lucy Corr c.1841. James died in 1896 and Lucy in 1910. I found Wills were made by both of them.

Lucy Donnelly was recorded on the 1901 census at Ballydawley with her children Peter, Francis, Margaret and Thomas. Her son John, born 10/07/1873 had moved to Co.Durham, England. Her son Joseph married in 1909 - Mary[surname?] and was recorded on the 1911 census at Quilly, Blackagh Slieve Gallion RD. I don't know where that is in relation to Ballydawley?

Joseph's siblings were living at Ballydawley in 1911.

On Griffith's Valuation there was a James Donnelly recorded at Ballydawley and I presume this to be the husband of Lucy Corr?

On the 1831 census for Artrea parish I discovered a Felix Donly and John Donlay resident at Ballydawley and I am guessing that John Donlay was the father of James Donnelly born c.1835.

I would like to tie up these lose ends with your help?

If my research could be useful to anyone please feel free to share it.

Finally my cousin said that he visited a farm when he was a child in the 1940s in the area(Ballydawley?) owned by relations called McElhone. I have asked him for more details but he was just a child.

  • Rootsireland has a marriage for James Donnelly and Lucy Corr in Co Tyrone in 1859. (Tradition was to marry in the bride?s church so perhaps that?s where she lived then). Pay to view:

The farm in Ballydawley in Griffiths does seem likely to be your family?s. There were only 23 households there and none other occupied by a Donnelly, let alone James Donnelly. The famr today is on the Springhill Rd (B18) more or less across the road from the junction with the Tralee Rd. It?s about 2 miles south of Moneymore. Easy enough to find should you ever wish to do so.

Quilly is about 2 miles north of Moneymore. Take the A29 north and then after about half a mile turn left on to the Tullynagee Rd. Quilly Rd is about a mile along there.

  • Hi turner25,

We are both descended from John Donnelly and Mary Annn Doolan. Your mother Margaret had a sister Lucy who married Joseph Duffy and that is my link with the family.

I have a lot of information I've discovered, including some great photos. I look forward to hearing from you soon.
