My paternal line includes McCloskeys in New Orleans.  The 1st McCloskey in the line who emigrated from Dungiven was Joseph McCloskey (born April 1864 on Main St. Dungiven; died Aug 5, 1936 in New Orleans).  He married a 2nd time upon arriving in New Orleans to my direct line---Zita Gogarty (1877-1945).

His father was John McCloskey (a "Bridghe" McCloskey) from Dungiven.  He was born 1811 (perhaps in Cloneed, Oville, Derry) and died Aug 27, 1888 in New Orleans.  He married Catherine McCloskey (she was born Nov 22, 1817 in Killunaght, Dungiven and died Nov 11, 1902 in New Orleans).  Catherine McCloskey was the daughter of George McCloskey (a "New Street" McCloskey, 1778-1839) and Margaret Boyle (1786-1817).

John McCloskey (1811-1888) was the son of John McCloskey ("Brighde" McCloskeys; born 1785 and died 1845) and his wife Catherine Cramish.

I have no information about the parents of John McCloskey (1785-1845) or Catherine Cramish.

  • Hello, looking at old queries and Dungiven records are held at PRONI or the Public Reocrds Office of Northeren Ireland in Belfast, however they only commence in 1823 and 1824 for burials,

The surname Cramish I cannot locate but there is a name Cramsy or Crampsy, which is a variant or anglicisec version of Kneafsey which is almost exclusively found in Donegal, adjoins Derry or Londonderry.

    Regards
