Platts in Keenagh and Bree townlands, Inishowen Peninsula, Co. Donegal

The father of Jacob was William based on the info on the 1857 civil marriage record

There were three Francis Platt civil marriage records in the area (Esther Morton 1866 Anne Colhoun 1871 Rebecca Platt 1886).

The father was either Francis or Robert for those three records.

You did not mention if your Francis Platt married. If he did marry then it would appear that Jacob and Francis were not siblings but maybe they were cousins.

Thank you very much for your response.  I should have mentioned that I knew Jacob's father was William Platt from the records of both of Jacob's marriages.  William died in 1872 in Keenagh at age 89.  Griffith's Valuation (I assume in 1847) shows him to be a resident of the adjacent Bree.  Jacob had at least one sibling, Joseph, dying in 1888 in Keenagh at age 74.

I see that the 1866 Carndonagh marriage of Francis Platt (residence Culdaff) to Esther Morton Hyslett shows his father as Robert.  The 1871 Malin marriage of Francis Platt (residence Moss Edge) to Anne Colhoun (residence Knockglass) shows his father as Francis.  The1886 Carndonagh marriage of widower Francis (also Moss Edge) to Rebecca Platt (Culdaff residence), his father also being Francis.  So the latter two Francis Platt's are likely the same person.  There is a widower Francis Platt dying at age 87 in 1884 in Knockglass reported by his Knockglass-residing son William.

I do not established a Francis Platt in my tree.  Jacob Platt, born ca. 1826, died 1884, (father William) was my great grandfather.  I know the distances between townlands in Inishowen East is small, but I am thinking that the Knockglass Platts could have a connection to the adjacent Keenagh Platts, through a Francis or William or their generation.  I am wondering particularly if the 1884 deceased in Knockglass Francis (born ca. 1797) could have been a sibling of my ca. 1783 born William.  It is all somewhat confusing.  The lack of adequate or complete records adding to the confusion, but it would be hard to believe that all the Platts in such close proximity are not connected at some past generation.

Any additional insight that you might have would be very welcome.

For people with Inishowen ancestry, there is a Facebook group  - Inishowen DonegalDNA Matches.  They are linked to an Inishowen DNA project, you would need to contact them,  they will request you to upload your DNA from a genealogy site to GEDMATCH, and you will be given access to their Inishowen ancestry project in order to run your matches which you can then post to their site. You can also add some information on interest. Apart from possibly showing members with links to Platts even if the common DNA held is quite low, group members from the area can be very useful for gaining further information.
