Good day,

  •  Ellen Bonner married Daniel McCallion about 1820 in Ireland.

Ellen Bonner    (b. Ireland abt 1795)  &   (d. Boston Mass,  Feb 15, 1869)  . Grave stone indicates:  Ellen was a native of parish Malin County Donegal.                                                                                                        parents were John Bonner & Cecelia (maybe Doherty)  per death record.

Daniel McCallion   (b. Ireland abt 1795)  &    (d, Boston  Aug 6, 1890) .           parents were Dennis McCallion & Margaret (unknown).  per death record

  • Daniel & Ellen Bonner McCallion emigrated from Londonderry to St John, New Brunswick in 1850 on the JJ Cooke Ship " John Redden".  The McCallions listed Culdaff as the place of residence. The ship log has Daniel listed as "Donald". I believe this to be in error as we've found no record of a Donald McCallion in Boston at that time. They arrived with children Ellen, Michael (14), John (12), Daniel (9).  There was a Ann McCallion listed as well but no age & no further record of her.  The same passenger list had a Dennis McCallin of Culdaff. Not sure if this may have been an older son or perhaps a relative.

The 1855 Massachusetts state census shows children - Ellen (20yrs), Michael (18yrs), John (16 yrs), Daniel (14yrs).  All born in Ireland. This would match the emigration data.

  • Ellen Bonner McCallion died Feb 15,1869  (age 73) in Boston.       A grave stone indicates Ellen was a native of the parish of Malin.

  • Daniel & Ellen McCallion also had a daughter Mary McCallion b. abt 1823.  Mary was married in Ireland prior to her parents & siblings emigrating.  She came to Boston Mass with her husband Neil Doherty & children Grace Doherty & Daniel Doherty between 1847 - 1849.   Neil & Mary are shown on the 1850 Boston census with the children Grace (10), Daniel (5) & a new child Mary (1) born in Boston.  There are 3 others living with Neil & Mary in 1850.         I suspect they are possible siblings of Neil Doherty's.                      John Doherty(32) , Daniel Doherty (28) & Grace Gelispie (28).

We do not know any more about Neil Doherty other than his marriage to Mary McCallion.

  • Mary McCallion married Neil Doherty in 1843.  There is a discrepancy in the marriage information for Mary & Neil Doherty.  Documents for widow benefits (Neil died in 1862 - Civil War) show a discrepancy in the date and place of marriage.

(The writing is difficult to read)  but as best we can tell, Mary McCallion & Neil Doherty were married between Oct 5, 1843 & Dec 1, 1843 by Catholic priest Rev. Eugene Farley (name "Farley" may not be correct - hard to  read). Maulin county Donegal. Other names - possible witnesses to the marriage are Michael McConigle & Michael Mc Culligan

Hopeful that someone can provide family information on the Bonner - McCallion and McCallion - Doherty connections for me.

Ellen Bonner / Daniel McCallion are my 3 x great grandparents.

Mary McCallion / Neil Doherty are my 2 x great grandparents.

Sincerely,

Anne
