My great grandfather was Samuel Stinson RIC in Culdaff. Three of his children, frederick, Albert and Edith Mary were baptised in the Church of Culdaff

  • Hi Kathleen

    What is your question?

There is a baptism record of Samuel Stinson in Doneagl in 1901 on www.rootsireland.ie/

Is this the right time for him? The parish is not Culdaff however

  • Kathleen:

Below is the 1901 census record for the Stinson family. By 1911, Samuel had retired and moved to Co.Tyrone. I also located the civil marriage index record for the 1886 marriage to Mary Jane Sproule in Co. Sligo.

  • Hi Liz - it looks like we are related as Samuel Stinson RIC in Culdaff was my gtgrandfather also. He, his wife Mary Jane and most of their children emigrated to Canada in 1921 going through Ellis Island and then to their son William Walter who was living in Berkely ,California at the time. From there they all crossed into British Columbia and can be found in the Border Crossing records. I have found marriage and death records at Royal BC Museum whose records are free. Have also made contact with one of his grand daughters in Vancouver (she would be my Dad's cousin). I have found Samuel in Petty Sessions Order Books (Find My Past) and on the 1901 / 1911 Census Returns but have been unable to find his birth. I know he was born in Tyrone and his father was William. Am waiting to view the RIC microfilm for any more information. Hope this helps and looking forward to hearing from you.
