I assume your ancestors were RC. Unforunately records for the Catholic church in Rathmullan do not begin until 1868. I was looking for the marriage record since civil registration did not begin until 1864. I was able to locate the likely civil birth index record for young Charles in 1866. You can get a copy of this record from the General Register Office for around 4 euros. The birth record will show where the family lived. Go to this link:

print out the appropriate form, fill out the form to the best of your ability, add the info from the index record and mail the form to the GRO. You can ask them to e-mail the copy back to you.
