Michael J. Daugherty/Dougherty b County Donegal 1840. He along with his older brother John went to Glasgow, Scotland to work to earn money for passage on a ship bound to America. While there, he met and married Jane Ellen Sumerville. Date of Registration July-September 1862. Had a son John b Dec 1862. They all emigrated to America about 1864. Michael's brother John settled in Ohio. Michael and his family settled in Noblestown, Washington Co., PA They had 5 more children. Michael was killed by a train 3 Aug 1872.

Sarah b 4 March 1868. Married ___ Davis 25 Dec 1891. Had 2 children. d 2 April 1924
Michael 25 July 1871. Moved to Steubenville, OH. Married ___ had 3 children. A railroad engineer, he was killed in a train wreck Wheeling, Ohio Co., WV
Agnes b 1873 Married James Malloy. Had 2 children
Margaret Ellen b 18 Oct 1869. Married Patrick Joseph Coyle 23 June 1887. Had 12 children. She was well known for throwing good parties. Her daughter Catherine Marie Coyle Chappel and 3 of her 4 children moved in with her following the death of her daughter's husband Joseph Chappel. Two of her late husband's brothers--Daniel and James--also moved in with her. Margaret died 22 April 1956

The name Dougherty comes from the name Doherty and is one of the Clan names of Donegal.

As the name is one of the most common names in Donegal, it will be hard to trace Michael Dougherty unless you have the area in Donegal born in or his parent's names. They might be on Michael's marriage cert. This cert would have to be obtained from Scotland.
