Samuel Griffith's sons, William, Daniel & John, immigrated to Canada. The other two sons, George and Thomas stayed in Ireland. Wondering if their descendants still live there.

  • RE Samuel Griffith:

I think his three sons ( William, Daniel and John ) came to Canada.  The unfortunate part is I do not have exact dates.

William, born April 15, 1803, Ballintra parish, Donegal married Anne Clark on March 6, 1838, Newcastle District, Ontario and died on Feb 15, 1901, York( now Toronto), Ontario.  This may not be Samuel's son as I thought William's parents were John Griffith, 1765-1846, Ballintra who married ( Jan 5, 1792, Drumholm) Jane Colvin, 1767, Laghey-June 25, 1849, Drumholm.

There was a Daniel Griffith residing on Lot 12, Concession 13 in North Monaghan township, Northumberland County,Ontario in 1833.  There was also a John Griffith in Port Hope,Ontario in 1840, working as a harness maker.

Hence, I cannot confirm that the three sons of Samuel are the ones referred to , without more information.

  • Hi cousin Orion, Do you also show an Angeline as Samuel & Jane's daughter? Born 8/14/1810 in Donegal. Married to John Thompson, also born in Donegal circa 1811. I show her date of death as 12/1/1898 in Norwood and he died in 1863 in Norwood. Their daughter Catherine married William Mackey but I have no other records. Still wondering about George and Thomas who apparently stayed in Ireland. Where is Carrickbreeny? I found a John, George, and Thomas Griffith all apparently leasing land from a Rev. Hamilton. Lynn

    Hi all

I have just came across these posts it would appear that the Thomas Griffith you talk about was my great grandfather with George being my grandfather on my mothers side. I have tried to attach a photo of George's birth certificate to this post showing Thomas as the father And Jane Griffith ne Colvin as the mother.

If the writing on the photo can't be read I can email it if required
