I have been informed that Jane Elliott, born April 30, 1788 ( daughter of William Elliott, 1759-1809, Drumholm & Margaret Love, 1761-1840,Drumholm) married Thomas Pearson on April 15, 1806 in Clogher.  I have not been able to locate this family in any Canadian Census.  In fact , some records on ancestry.ca state that Jane married an Alexander Hyndman and she died in Lennoxville , Quebec in 1861.  Any assistance in locating information on this family will be appreciated.

Since posting the information above, I have also been informed that a Jane Elliott, born in 1788 married William McCrae, born in 1792.  This marriage occurred in 1818, in Drumholm, Donegal.    However, the parents of this Jane Elliott have yet to be identified.  This Jane Elliott left with her husband and first born( Susannah McCrae( 1819_) on the ship Alexander from Newry Ireland to New York , arriving on July 28, 1821.  Your assistance in identifying the parents of this Jane Elliott will be appreciated.

  • Dear Orion:

Many thanks for your query to the Ireland Reaching Out message board and welcome.

There is a marriage record for Jane Elliott to Thomas Pearson as copied below in the Roots Ireland database.

    Date of Marriage:     15-Apr-1806
Parish / District:     DRUMHOME         County:     Co. Donegal
        Husband         Wife
    Name:     Thomas     Pearson         Jane     Elliott
    Address:     Clogher         Lismintan
Denomination:     Church Of Ireland         Church Of Ireland
    Occupation:
Age:     Full Age (Over 21)         Full Age (Over 21)
    Status:

I do note that there appears to be an Edward Thomas Pearson in the townland of Clogher, County Donegal listed in the Tithe Applotment Books in 1825.

You might try to trace Thomas Pearson further to see where or when he died or if he did emigrate to Canada.  There may be a headstone inscription for him in County Donegal.  There are several Donegal sites that contain headstone inscriptions.

  • Thanks Jane for your prompt reply and your suggestions.  While I was informed that the marriage record existed, the problem still remains whether this Jane Elliott is the daughter of William Elliott, 1759-1809 & Margaret Love, 1761-1840.  The daughter of William and Margaret was born in 1786; baptized ON APRIL 30, 1788,Drumholm and died on July 24, 1861 in Lennoxville, Quebec.  When I found the death certificate for Jane , it showed that she was married to an Alexander Hyndman and not Thomas Pearson.  Hence , tracking Thomas Pearson has been a very difficult task.  Any further suggestions will be appreciated.

  • Orion,

I can't help you with Jane, but I believe we may be related. I had found some records for my 5th Great Grandfather, George Elliott Sr, born in Drumholm 05 Feb 1792 whose parents were William Elliott and Margaret Love. I only have a birth record I found through the Irish Research Library here in Phoenix, AZ and a few Canadian records but not much from his childhood prior to his immigration to Canada in the 1860s.

Next time I go to the research library I can see if perhaps Jane was also their child and if I can make a connection from George to Jane.
