Hello,
My name is Debbie I am researching my Mckee's and Lockhart lines from Ardara mainly in the Loughros point area. I have actually been over there. I spent a few days in the Ardara area and met my McKee family from the are but they are not interested in genealogy. My Mckee's left the area aroun 1784, and I know there isn't much information there later than 1800's. I did visit the Kilcashel cemetery there and there is an Andrew Mckee buried there in 1790. I would love to find out if there is a way of finding out who all is interred there, and if there are other Cemetey's near by that Might also have McKee's or Lockharts buried there. My mother is a McKee and I have been doing her family history for over 20 years. Would there be any history books of the area? Anything that might lend a clue on the family?
I know that they may have possibly come up from the Glencolumcille area around that time. I have seen a few records but I would love to find out more if possible. Thanks! I know that our family intermarried with, Love's, Young's, Boyd's, Blaine's and Elliots to name a few from that area. And many of the migrated together to Pennsylvania from the mid 1700's into the mid 1800's with many of them ending up in Coshocton and Knox and harrison counties in Ohio which is where my family came to from the Western Pennsylvania. Thanks for any help!
Deb

Dear Deb
Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out and apologies for the delay in replying.
Your best bet might be to find a local heritage society or similar who may have knowledge of graveyard transcription projects if the graves are not already included on historicgraves. This website might be of assistance given how specific your query is: http://www.donegaldiaspora.ie/
Best wishes for a happy 2017

Hi Deb,
Have you seen the book "Boyds and Lockharts of Donegal"? It may provide some helpful information for you. See https://www.familysearch.org/search/catalog/377815?availability=Family%20History%20Library
It has been somewhat helpful in my own research, although James Devitt had to speculate quite a bit because he wasn't able to confirm some of the information he gleaned through conversations and interviews. But I know that my great grandfather was born in that area and migrated to Canada in 1841 with his parents and siblings.
Happy hunting,
Doug Lockhart

Doug Lockhart,
Ok I am slow! :) I have copies of all 5 books written by James Devitt. I wonder if he is still living. I would love to ask him some questions! :)
