I am wondering if anyone would have any info on the Docherty family from Mount Charles. My Great Grandmother Eleanor (Ellen, Helen) was born there in about 1841. She married John Flynn from Castlefinn. They eventually settled in Glasgow. I am hoping to visit the area in May. Thankyou

Hi Charmaine
Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!.
There is a record for a John and Eleanor married in the parish of Killygordan on 18-Jun-1859. Their marriage record doesn't name their parents unfortunately. Witnesses to the marriage were Patrick Andreson and Thomas Scott.
You can see the digitized original here:

I located two baptism records for children of the couple, Mary Jane baptised on 05-Feb-1860 and Robert baptised on 26-Jan-1862. If you could find an approximate birth year for John we could have a look for you.
Is there a death record or obituary your side that might shed some further light:
Scotland's People: http://www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk/welcome.aspx
As you can see the name is very common in that part of Donegal:

Best wishes

Hello Clare, many thanks for your prompt reply. I believe John was born 1841-43 and his wife Eleanor Docherty from Mount Charles was born 1841-1845. In the family record I do have a Mary Jane as the first child, she married a Harry Mcoll. I then have James Patrick who died in infancy, followed by Eleanor, John, Margaret, Brigid, and twins Rosina and Edward (My Grand father) The latter children were born in Glasgow. There is no mention of Robert, wonder if he did not survive? I thank you for your interest which means so much to me and my children.
