I am researching my paternal McGee Families and was told by my father's cousin now deceased (Dan from St Johnston) that my McGees/Magees originated in Drumkeen - don't know the time period - there were two brothers brought up Catholic and John stayed in Ireland, Wiliam went to sea possibly ending in Canada and four sisters all emigrated to Mass. USA. My grandfather was Thomas who married Cathrine, her mother was Eliza McFadden - they lived in Main Street, Carrigans.
My grandfather's parents were John and Mary (nee Harkin) McGee/Magee and they lived in Rushfield, Taughboyne - I was told Mary was from Rosemount and had relations McCallion - there are loads of Harkins and McCallions in Rosemount, Derry. The McGees before that lived in Dernakelly, Taughboyne)
My grandfather's siblings were eldest brother John (b. 24/10/1873) first married to Mary McGlinchey from Cloon who died in 1899, they had 3 children John ?married Grace McCafferty and had 5 children May Hugh Grace Peggy and Danny; Annmarie and James. I think he then married Catherine Houston they had 4 children Elizabeth, Daniel, Patrick and Kathleen.
Mary Anne (b.05/01/1878 - d 27.09.1959) married Henry Toland and had three children Henry, John and Patrick - one of their children John Toland lived in High Park, Creggan and died this year.
William (b. 1883) married Annie Ferry - they married in St Baithins St Johnston on 14/11/1911 and had 3 children John (b 21/11/1913) Elizabeth (b 04/04/1917) ?married Robert J King) and Maria (b 24/07/1922 ?married Edward King -
Daniel (b.1881) - I have no information.
James (b 29/05/1884) - I have no infromation
Elizabeth (b 07/07/1887 - I have no information.
Patrick (b 27/11/1889 - I have no information.
Bernard (b.1894 - d 02/01/1972) married Ann McGarvey on 25/12/1918 and they had 8 children: Mary, Nora, Grace, Annie, Bernard, Claire, Margaret and John. I believed they lived in the original house in Rushfield. I met Claire and had contact from one of her nieces but I have lost this contact.
Would love to get contact with all these McGees/Magees.
I live in Derry and I am on facebook.
Best wishes and here's to future connections in 2016.
