Daniel Collins - b. Letterkenny 1828; emigrated (to Canada) 1882 d. Canada 1901; married to Barbara Diver - b. Ardageny (think it's really Ardaganny) 1835 (daughter of P. Diver and Fanny Lewis); emigrated 1882 d. Canada 1922.

Children born in Ireland: Charles - 1860, Patrick - 1861, Daniel - 1863, William - 1866, John - 1870, Sarah - 1872, Joseph - 1874, Bernard - 1880.

Child born in Canada - James - 1882

Daniel had brothers (not sure of names) who emigrated prior to 1881.

Looking for Irish ancestors - Daniel's siblings/parents; Barbara's siblings/parents.

Supposedly the RC church burned down where the records were kept (maybe Conwal?) as my great uncle Bernard tried to find information on the family back in the 1970s and was unsuccessful. This is where the story about the church burning came.

I'll be visiting Ireland this fall and would love to see where the family originated!

I've attached the 1858 Griffiths Valuation head of household listing for Leck civil parish. There is a Patrick Dever in Ardaganny so I'm presuming that he is the father of Barbara. There are also three Lewis entries in that parish. I also looked for a Daniel Collins in Griffiths and the only one listed was a Daniel in Tullygay townland, Conwal civil parish. Possibly that is the Daniel who went to Canada. He would have been 30 based on your 1828 year of birth.

RC Church records do not appear to be available prior to the 1850s for the parishes listed. I checked on Roots Ireland www.rootsireland.ie for the marriage of Daniel and Barbara but there was no record.
