Hi everyone I am coming to Ireland in August and will be staying in Moville for a night or so. Would love to know if there are any connections to the FAULKNER family still around.

The name is also spelt as Falconter and Farquinter in different records.

James FAULKNER married Mary Irwin  3 children I have found are John b1854 James b1859 and Mary Ann b1861 Both John and Mary Ann came to New Zealand married and settled here have not been able to find James at all.Family story is he went to America but have no way of knowing if this is true.

James Faulkner was found on Griffiths Valuation living in Cabry, Moville Upper, Inishowen, Co Donegal.
No description of tenement and the owner was noted as a James Brown.

Also living in Cabry and owning property in 1876 Landowners List were
Ann Faulkner -  2 acres
George Faulkner - 2 acres
Neal Faulkner - 7 acres     (these may be family relatives)

I would love to contact family if possible or maybe even find out where James and Mary are buried.

cheers

    Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!

The online Irish phone book (which is a partial list of phone users) https://www.eirphonebook.ie/   shows three or four Faulkner listings around Moville. For privacy reasons, we can't provide the records directly. Make sure you use the Residential TAB.

There were three Faukiner families in the 1901 census for Cabry. Not sure how they relate to your ancestors.

  • You don't say what religion your Faulkners were.

    I found this marriage -

Faulkner - Quigley.  January 24, 1900 at Drung Catholic Church by Rev Michael Farnan P.P.  Neil Faulkner, Carrowkeel, second son of the late George Faulkner, Cabry to Mary Jane, second daughter of James Quigley, Redcastle.

    Deaths:

Faulkner:  March 1, 1906 at his residence Quigley's Point, Upper Moville.  Thomas Faulkner who for over forty years drove the mail car to Malin.

Faulkner:  October 31, 1906 at her residence 44 Bridge Street, Derry.  Sarah, wife of the late George Faulkner.  Funeral will leave her late residence for interment in Drung burying ground today Friday 2nd November at half past nine o'clock.  American papers please copy.

Faulkner:  June 1913 at the Western Hospital Glasgow.  William, second son of the late George and Sarah Faulkner.  His remains will be removed from his sister's residence 34 Bridge Street, Derry for interment in Drung burying ground today Friday 27th inst at half past nine o'clock.  American papers please copy.

Faulkner:  December 5, 1934 at his residence Cabry, Quigley's Point.  John Faulkner, father of Rev George Faulkner Adm, Long Tower, Derry.  Funeral from his home this Friday morning 7th inst at 10 o'clock, for Mass at Drung Chapel commencing at 11 o'clock.  Interment immediately afterwards.  American papers please copy.

Faulkner:  January 14th, 1940 at her residence Quigley's Point.  Ann, relict of the late John Faulkner and mother of Rev George Faulkner P.P. Melmount.  Interment in Drung burying ground tomorrow Tuesday 16th inst after eleven o'clock mass.

I would try www.irishgraveyards.ie website under Donegal, graveyard Drung.  Also, ask at Cabry, Quigley's Point Post Office on your arrival they may be able to help you with local Faulkners.

    Good luck.

  • Sorry, late to the party as ever. The name Faulkner only really appeared around the late 17th century, previously it was Faulkney. There are several different variations of the name but Faulkner comes from James Faulkney born in Castlebar around 1706. But further back than that comes from the Irish name O'fachtna. James Faulkney was my 6x great grandfather. James Faulkney's son was Anthony Faulkner who worked for lord Lucan the second earl. His son was James Faulkner who was a landlord, his son was Thomas who was also a land lord. Thomas had 3 daughters and two sons. My great great grandmother Agnes/Ines was the eldest, his second eldest daughter Kathleen inherited the family estate (the grove 3 and a bit acres) and sold it in 1993, she died in 1994.
