~~I believe (I'm not 100% certain) Rachel Cassidy Steele Hamilton (1841-1904) and John William Hamilton (abt1835-1900) Whitehill, Mannorcunningham, Parish Of Raymoghy, Donegal, were my great grandparents. A marriage record shows they married in the Ray 2nd Presbyterian Church on 31 Oct 1870.
My grandfather, 'John Robert' Hamilton (abt 1878-1952) emigrated to the US about 1895 and may have travelled with a brother. The family story is that he came as a stowaway on a boat to Canada and worked his way across Canada, entering the US in North Dakota. He used his parents' names (above) on his US marriage certificate in 1904. Over the years, he reported various places of birth for census documents.
I have located 6 birth records for sons born to Rachel and John W Hamilton and followed 3 on census records in the early 1900's. I would like to get in touch with their descendants to find out if one or more of their sons emigrated to the US in the 1890's.
I have used the 1901 and 1911 census, Civil Registration Indexes, and the International Genealogical Index, v5.0.

Hi Judith,
Thanks for your message. It may be an idea to also place a message in a more local forum such as a newsletter or newspaper in order to increase the likelihood that someone connected to the families sees it. Some possible places you may be able to do this are:
