Seeking information on the parents of John Boyle, b.1841, who emigrated to United States in 1858. He resided in Allentown, PA. Appears to have two siblings Patrick b. 1844 and James b. 1848 also living in Allentown.  Parents were Patrick (John) Boyle and Ellen Carney. Records here also have her named Kearney. I have no further information on other children. John was married in the states to Elizabeth McNulty whose parents John and Ann McNulty were also from Donegal.

While not 100% sure of the parish it would appear that many of those buried at the Catholic Cemetery in Allentown were from Templecrone. Sadly my ancestors had no monuments.

Thank you.

  • Kathy:

Finding information on the parents of John will be very difficult.

The surname Boyle is extremly common in Templecrone parish.

Like most of Co. Donegal, the Catholic church records for the area around Templecrone parish do not start until the 1860s-1870s.

I also looked at the 1857 Griffiths Valuation head of household listing for Templecrone and there were over 20 Patrick Boyle entries. http://www.failteromhat.com/griffiths/donegal/templecrone.htm

Have you looked for an obituary for John or his brothers which might show a townland?

  • Thanks so much for your prompt reply. Unfortunately any 'legal' paperwork simply says Ireland or Donegal, Ireland. Found the obituary for each and two say the father's name is Patrick Boyle and mother is Ellen Carney. John's obit states that his father's name was John and mother Ellen Carney

As I mentioned in the original post the 6th ward in Allentown appeared to have a large Irish constituency with many from Templecrone. Certainly not proof, but a starting point.

Again, appreciate your assistance. Take care,
