I am looking for any information on the Gardener/Gardner/Gardiner family that lived in the Hillsborough/Magheradartin and Lisburn areas in the early 1800s through the mid 1900s. In particular a Solomon Gardner who immigrated to the America about 1820 with Eliza Rogers. He had an uncle Robert Gardner in Magheradatin that signed a family Bible for him when he left Ireland. His parents were Richard and Agness Gardner. Other family names were a Margaret Gardner, Edward Gardner, James Gardner, John S or B Gardner and his wife Mary Martin. Another name was Camball  (spelling?)Gardner. John and James emigrated to America in the 1840s.They were all most likely Presbyterian or Methodist. Most were farmers. I am looking for church records, land records, birth/marriage/death records, and cemetary information.

Thank you for any possible clues . . . Barbara Gardner Ebeling (23016 Pilcher Rd. Plainfield, Illinois, 60544 or

  • Hi, I'm in the process of researching my Gardner ancestors in Northern Ireland. I don't have much to go one but it has been recommended to find out where Gardners appeared in the 17th and 18th centuries, and Hillsborough/Lisburn is one area filled with Gardners.

My Y-DNA test shows that I have an "N" haplogroup, which is pretty unusual in Ireland. If any Gardner males have taken a Y-DNA test, the N would be a good indicator of our connection and I'd love to talk to you.
